Melissa Buckman Young, Attorney at Law
PRACTICE DEFINITION
I began practicing law at The Seigfreid Law Firm, L.L.C. in September, 2009. I am licensed to practice in all courts in the state of Missouri, as well as the United States Federal District Courts in the Western District of Missouri and the Eastern District of Missouri. I am also certified in alternative dispute resolution through the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and offer mediation and arbitration services in all types of cases.
Primarily I practice general civil law, working in the fields of family law (including divorce, adoption, and child custody), contractual disputes, estate planning, and personal injury. I also engage in real estate, corporate, medical malpractice, municipal law, and agricultural legal issues.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Prior to my graduation in May 2009 from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, I clerked for The Seigfreid Law Firm, L.L.C. where I worked on several complex litigation cases, including medical malpractice and fraud. During my clerkship, I drafted legal documents including trial briefs and motions, met with clients, interviewed witnesses and performed legal research. I also worked at the Audrain County Prosecutor’s Office from January through May 2008 where I had the opportunity to learn about criminal law and trial practice from former Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Lamb. I was awarded a Rule 13 right to practice law by the Missouri Supreme Court after my second year of law school.
I am a 2006 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and a minor in Agricultural Economics. My agricultural background gives me a strong work ethic and a no nonsense approach to the practice of law.
I am a lifelong resident of Audrain County, born and raised in Martinsburg. I am currently the President of the Audrain County Bar Association. I also serve as Legal Counsel for the Mexico Area Jaycees. While in law school, I was active in the Women’s Law Association. During undergraduate school, I held leadership positions with the Mizzou Collegiate CattleWomen and was the student board member of the Audrain County Alumni Association.
